IMPORTANT NOTE: We only carry out DBS applications for GPs and Nurses/Practice Nurses/Advanced Nurse Practitioners that are registered with a Lantum account.
If you are a Practice Nurse/Advanced Nurse Practitioner, please click here.
This page is to help you get started with applying for an Enhanced DBS certificate where all 5 fields are requested with uCheck using Digital ID verification.
How to get started
Further details on how to proceed are outlined below so please read these thoroughly before requesting a DBS. You will also find information on the DBS Update Service. If you have questions, please contact us.
Please note that Lantum does not hold any responsibility for errors made with the Digital ID and/or a DBS application, nor are we liable for any costs towards the application.
Please make sure you hold one of the following original ID documents for the Digital ID:
- an electronic passport, also known as an e-passport that has a NFC (near field communication) chip and a NFC enabled reader, such as a smartphone
or
- if you do not have an e-passport, a UK driving licence
If you have one of the aforementioned documents, then please read carefully the steps below:
1. Complete a DBS Applicant Agreement
Please fill out our DBS Applicant Agreement - this can be downloaded at the bottom of the page
- Read the terms and conditions
- Fill out your details
- Sign and date the agreement
- Email all of pages of the agreement (attach it as scans or photos) to the Clinical Governance Team at clinical.governance@lantum.com
Our team will review the completed agreement as soon as we can. We will check that you are eligible for the application through us, for example we will check our system that you are registered with a Lantum account and you are a GP. If not, then we cannot proceed further.
If you meet our criteria, you will receive an email from us with the next steps to complete the application.
2. Complete the uCheck application
You will also receive an email invitation from uCheck. Please check your junk mail and if you have not received it, let us know so we can resend the it.
The email will include a link to proceed with the application on uCheck's online platform, Atlas. Please note that the link expires in 30 days after it is sent to you.
Once you have submitted your application, you will receive another email from uCheck regarding the Digital ID. Please check your junk mail and if you have not received it, let us know and we can resend the link. You will have to download an app to share your original ID documents. More information can be found from uCheck's website here.
*Please note: if you choose the ‘Opt-Out of Digital ID’ option, you will be unable to continue the DBS application via Lantum, as the Digital ID check is required for the verification of your documents. If the Digital ID fails and you cannot provide alternative compliant document(s), the DBS application via Lantum cannot continue and uCheck may still charge you for the Digital ID check*
uCheck may reject applications that contain any incorrect information. Examples include:
- First and surnames being entered the wrong way round
- Spelling mistakes or special characters used (e.g. accents)
- Incorrect address or house number entered
- Incorrect city/county of birth entered
*Please note: if you have entered details incorrectly during the application process, you may still be liable to pay for the Digital ID and/or DBS application, even if it cannot be completed or the completed application is incorrect*
3. Payment
The cost of the DBS application is £66.50*:
- £5 for the Digital ID check
- £61.50 for the DBS check
This is to be paid directly to uCheck, so please follow their instructions.
*This does not include the DBS Update Service fee
If you have any questions/issues relating to your online application or with the Digital ID before submitting it, there are relevant links in the emails they will have sent you. Alternatively, please contact uCheck's Customer Support Team:
- Live Chat and FAQ pages by clicking here
- Phone number: 0300 140 022
- Email: info@ucheck.co.uk
If you have questions after you have submitted the Digital ID, please contact our Clinical Governance Team.
4. Completed DBS
It usually takes 3 - 14 working days for a DBS application to complete but occasionally they can take longer.*
You will receive an email from our Clinical Governance Team with your certificate number so you can sign up to DBS Update Service should you wish. More information about the Update Service can also be found below.
*If you have yet to receive an email from us after 4 weeks of submitting your application, please contact us, so we can see what stage it is at. Neither our team or uCheck can control how long a DBS application takes and it cannot be expedited. As the check goes through the Police, they can hold your records for up to 90 days but this is rare.
An Enhanced DBS paper certificate will be posted directly from DBS to the current address you inputted on your DBS application. You will not receive a digital copy so hold on to the original copy for your records. You will also need the original copy if you want to sign up to the DBS Update Service.
Once you have received the original certificate, please take a clear photograph/scan of the first full page (all pages if you further information) and upload it onto your Lantum account.

DBS Update Service
Applying for a new DBS can be a bit of a headache. Thankfully, there is service which means you can keep your DBS updated for a fee. The catch is that you have to apply for this within 30 days of the issue date of new DBS, which is why we email you your certificate number. You can sign up by clicking the following link: DBS Update Service
When you have registered, this means you can
- Take your certificate from one job to the next
- Give employers permission to check your certificate online and see who has checked it
- Add or remove a certificate.
You will received an ID number with your registration that you need to log on to the service.
We recommend you use a reliable payment method as the Update Service has a yearly fee of £16. If you do not pay the fee on time, the certificate will become redundant/expired on Lantum if the original certificate's date of issue is more than 3 years old.
Please note, the Update Service does not keep a copy of your original certificate and only gives a brief overview of whether anything has changed. Therefore, the original certificate is still needed alongside the Update Service to show what information was included in the original check. For example, all 5 fields were requested.

Cancellation Policy
If you wish to cancel your DBS application, please let us know as soon as possible.
Lantum is not liable for any costs towards the application and if you cancel when some processes of the application have already been completed, uCheck may still charge you the full amount.
